Teaching Philosophy
I believe teachers are transmitters of knowledge that is passed down AND the practical knowledge created in the midst of classroom discussions by students. In other words, we the teachers learn from our students as well. This is so prevalent in the online world where my students have access to many sites and now Artificial Intelligence. As a teacher, my aim is to teach and model critical thinking. In our era and moving forward, students can access information easier than before. What is now needed more than ever in the past is critical thinking and the ability to engage in civil debates to find solutions to our social problems.
Research Interests
Non-violent Social Movements in the Middle East and North Africa,
Online activism on the part of women’s rights activists,
Freedom of information in authoritarian regimes.
